1994 Supreme “Taxi Driver” Tee
Supreme “Taxi Driver” Tee
Featuring the Travis Bickle character who was portrayed by Robert De Niro in “Taxi Driver”, the Taxi Driver tee was released by Supreme in 1994 as one of the very first designs Supreme would release. Alongside the Box Logo tee, Afro Skater tee, and the original Basquait tee, the Taxi Driver tee helped usher in the brand that would eventually take over and dominate the streetwear industry an street scene altogether. Robert De Niro, who was 33 at the time of the films release was widely praised for his role in the film and would receive an Oscar nomination for his efforts. Many film critics at the time praised “Taxi Driver”, with Roger Ebert even going as far as to say it was one of the greatest films he had ever seen. From 2000-2011, a remake or a sequel surrounding an old Travis Bickle was being talked about and a rough script was even written. But those involved felt like it wasn’t good enough to match the legend that the original was, and it was ultimately canceled. But for Supreme fans, that wouldn’t be the last of Travis Bickle as Supreme would release the tee again in 2014 as part of their 20th Anniversary.
